Bastrop Fine Arts Guild: New Gallery Plans

Facts Regarding the 1204 Chestnut Street Project

 

The Bastrop Fine Arts Guild is undertaking a transformational project that will salvage the historic Powell Cotton Seed Mill and silos and repurpose those buildings to house a vibrant art center within one block of the new Convention Center and City Hall. Below are some pertinent facts about this exciting project:

 

A 9,000 Square foot main building will house: 

  • A 4,000 square foot state-of-the-art gallery
  • A large lobby/retail gift shop
  • Two (2) classroom spaces
  • Five (5) artist studios for lease
  • A 1,000 to 2,000 square foot specialty wine/coffee shop

An outdoor sculpture garden will be created containing:

  • Xeriscape landscaping and rainwater collection system
  • Outdoor water feature and public patio
  • "Lockdown" plinths for display of public art and large bronzes
  • Covered tables and chairs for tourists and area residents to sit and enjoy an art experience unlike any other in Central Texas

Four (4) grain silos will be repurposed as:

  • A working studio for pottery
  • A working studio for glass artwork
  • A working studio for wood, stone and/or metal sculpting
  • An efficiency apartment/studio for an artist-in-residency program

Estimated Project Budget - $2,250,000+
Projected project completion date - January 1, 2013

Be sure to designate your funds are donated on behalf of the Capital Campaign Fund. The Guild is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and donations are tax deductible.
