Carol Lyon has always had a knack for pulling the simple from the complex. She will sit with an animal for hours to absorb the complexity of it’s existence and then attempt to capture its essence in her photography. Nothing on earth gives her more pleasure than to share time with a glorious creature.
It seems only natural that Carol would start her photography career at Capital of Texas Zoo as their staff photographer. Her naturalistic animal and pet photography has spilled over into fine art photography through her bird feather abstractions. Close ups of live bird’s feathers are presented as abstractions on their own or combined with sky photographs to create “magical realism” landscapes.
From fashion model to live theatre owner to teacher to today, Carol’s had the advantage of growing up surrounded by artistic mentors and the knowledge gleaned from careful observation. The controlling factors in Carol’s work are shooting pictures of what amuses and touches her. She likes to exalt the familiar, celebrate the ordinary, and honor the creatures of the world. She hopes factors will delight those who see her work.
Primarily self taught, Carol has garnered many gallery and competition inclusions since her launch in 2007. Although she is known primarily for her animal photography, Carol also includes floral, landscape, rustic, and nostalgic subjects in her portfolio of work.
